⬢ CURATED RECORDFourth moon of the orange gas giant Yavin Prime, Yavin 4 is a jungle world of massassi trees and stone ziggurats - the Great Temples - raised millennia ago by the Massassi, enslaved warriors of the exiled Sith Lord Naga Sadow. Abandoned for ages, the temples' bones became the Rebel Alliance's headquarters after Dantooine.
From the Great Temple's hangars launched the thirty fighters of the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY; the Death Star, clearing the gas giant to fire, was destroyed by Luke Skywalker's proton torpedoes with seconds to spare. The battle gave the galactic calendar its zero point (BBY/ABY). A decade later, by some accounts, Luke chose the moon's temples for his new Jedi training grounds.
