Jedha is a small, cold desert moon and one of the galaxy's oldest spiritual centers - by some traditions the site of the first Jedi temples. Its Holy City drew pilgrims of a hundred faiths to walk beneath the toppled statue of an ancient Jedi and seek the Guardians of the Whills at the Temple of the Kyber.

The Empire occupied Jedha to strip-mine its kyber crystal deposits - fuel for the Death Star's superlaser - and met a grinding insurgency led by Saw Gerrera's partisans. In 0 BBY a single-reactor test of that superlaser erased the Holy City, the blast wave chasing Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor off-world: the Death Star's first atrocity, rehearsal for Alderaan.

First appearance: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
