Jakku is a hardscrabble desert world that history visited exactly twice. In 5 ABY the broken Empire chose its skies for a last stand; the Battle of Jakku - the largest engagement of the Galactic Civil War's endgame - ended with Imperial capital ships plowed into the sand, and the Galactic Concordance signed soon after. The wrecks became the planet's economy: scavengers stripping Star Destroyers for portions doled out by junk bosses like Unkar Plutt.

Among those scavengers, decades later, was Rey - abandoned as a child at Niima Outpost - whose chance rescue of the droid BB-8, carrying Luke Skywalker's map fragment, pulled the galaxy's next war down onto the dunes.

First appearance: Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens (2015)
