D'Qar is a verdant Outer Rim world of jungle ridges and grass plains, uninhabited but for ruins of long-gone settlers - which made it ideal for General Leia Organa's Resistance, who built their base into low hillsides under camouflage netting while the New Republic looked away from the First Order's rise.

From D'Qar launched the strike that destroyed Starkiller Base in 34 ABY. The First Order's reprisal came within days; the Resistance evacuated under bombardment, Poe Dameron's costly bombing run against the Fulminatrix buying the transports time - the opening of the chase that ended at Crait.
